My Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART Lens (for Nikon) has been my go-to all of 2021 when it comes to any type of portrait or engagement photography! If you’re a beginner photographer trying to make that leap from your kit lens to the big and daunting prime-lens-world, I highly suggest Sigma’s 35mm. Their f1.8 sits a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the f1.4 but I think that extra splurge is 100% worth it for that wider aperture.
The 35mm gives you a middle ground where taking those close-up, detailed shots are just as easy as fitting your environment cohesively into the background with your subjects too. While most photographers find that they prefer bringing at least 2 separate cameras to their shoots for multiple perspectives (I am guilty of even more), I think the 35mm could work as your main/only lens and still knock it out of the park!
For this Engagement Session I used my Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART Lens paired with my Nikon D5600 body. All edited in Dreamy Black + White using my Cobalt Lightroom Preset Pack.
